JUDY ROSS
From a very early age, Judy has always felt the desire to create in various different mediums of expression, be it by creative writing, sewing, photography, painting and jewellery creations. Following a lengthy career as an executive secretary, she has returned to her artistic roots. Although primarily self-taught, Judy has also received fine art instruction from local accomplished artists in watercolour, oil and primarily, acrylic medium. She enjoys taking part in workshops whenever possible, most notably with well-known American collage artist, Carrie Burns Brown, as well as from talented Canadian acrylic artists/authors, Peter John Reid, Rhéni Tauchid and Steve Tracy.
“Over 30 years’ experience as a photographer, has been of great value to me with painting, in particular regarding composition and 'the art of seeing'. For the most part, I enjoy vivid colour, painting a variety of subject matter on varied surfaces, as well as incorporating texture into my work through the experimental use of mediums. This allows me to visually feel the image as I see it; eyes and heart meeting so to speak. My photographs are primarily landscape and convey mood with the effective use of lighting, composition, and subject matter. My landscape, cityscape and abstract paintings express more of my complex nature and the love of experimentation. This is no more evident than in my series of dimensional “Wheat” paintings done in memory of my father.
While valuing and respecting my fellow artists, I strive continually to experiment with new techniques, learn, improve and to maintain individuality in my art, all the while enjoying the ride and keeping it fun. Although I have occasionally received awards for my art, my greatest reward is when others express appreciation and enjoyment of it."
