This piece showcases this beautifully. The soft muted background is void of detail and, because of that, brings the subject to the forefront. The trees are full of contrast, value and great colours. My work is largely realistic, with more often than not, a nature theme. What interests me the most when I start a new work is compositional structure and design. The subject matter is interesting insofar as it provides a vehicle for a composition.
Odd perspectives and viewpoints interest me and I enjoy working with the subtleties of texture and colour to create a mood. I believe a painting is a playground for the eye and the result should bring both a sense of pleasure and tension to the viewer. When someone loves a painting, they love it again and again, appreciating it anew with each viewing. This is my goal!
Currently I am painting in oils and always seeking an intuitive expression in an ever-more personal way.
