I am a founding member of Portside Gallery which began in 1996.
I am also a member of the St. Thomas Artist Guild.
Since 1981, I have belonged to many artist guilds including Lambeth Art Association and the Port Stanley Artist Guild winning awards for my artwork. It was also an honour to be accepted into juried shows at Woodstock, Chatham and St. Thomas Galleries.
I was accepted into Paint Ontario numerous times and taught art at Fanshawe Adult Continuing Education, St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre, Portside Gallery and privately.
The process of personal development in the visual arts, and I believe any art, is a journey of discovery.
I am a field naturalist and bird watcher, who finds inspiration in the woods where all is present.
By all, I mean life and death, peace and chaos, beauty and ugliness, insight and mystery.
It is a place to rest and reflect on the old as well as a place to explore and discover something new.
Every artist chooses a subject that speaks to him or her. Nature is mine.
To create an image, I use the tools, techniques, and mediums that I have experienced and developed over the years. Like most artists, my aim is to use the elements of design at my disposal to develop artworks that draw people into them and hopefully create a lasting connection.
Colour and texture are both important in my artwork whether the image is impressionistic or abstracted.
Another important part of being an artist is the friends that I have gathered along the way.
That to me is the very best part.
All that being said, I love to paint! - Diane
