ROBERT RISELING I love art in all its eras and presentations. Not only for its beauty but for its history of a time, place and people. From the earliest cave dwellers, who after securing clothing, food and shelter, expressed their need for the arts by decorating their pottery, creating sculptured figures, drawing on the walls and making simple musical instruments. I doubt they were thinking of the future. But the future came. As humans developed, so did their manner and means of artistic expression. We are but following a line started thousands of years ago, enriching our own lives, hoping to impact our contemporaries and perhaps have a message sufficient to entice future generations to look ponder and enjoy. |
A professional musician, I have concertized and taught in universities across Canada, the US, Europe and China for fifty years. My personal interest in the visual arts was initially in collecting. I still love waking up to the paintings on the walls of our bedroom, coming down the stairs and seeing paintings, photographs and sculptures. Every room in the house has pieces of art from places we have been, including the smallest.
In retirement we holidayed in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where I took my first art classes. Over the next two trips, numerous YouTube videos, more classes and much work on my own, I amassed a considerable number of paintings, working in alcohol inks and acrylics on paper, wood and canvas. Largely self-motivated, I use brushes, palette knife and whatever tools are handy. My primary interests are color, line and rhythm, composition. whether in landscapes, still life or abstracts.
What you see may rest on top of one or more others. I do what I like and sometimes . . . . . I like what I do.
